Apple Mail app suddenly crashes from today when opening the app

since this morning my Mail app on iPhone 12 (IOS 16.5) freezes when opening with white screen for several seconds, than the starting view appears but frozen and after few seconds crashes. Tried to close app, restart phone etc... No changes.

Did not update IOS in the last days, so should not be related to this.

anyone having similar problem just recently?

PS: after checking a few things I just had an update 16.5.1 available. Did the update but no change, unfortunately.

Hi. I had to contact Apple support team and got contacted by a specialist after initial diagnosis via chat that didn’t bring solutions.

It seemed to be a problem with one of my Microsoft mail accounts (most likely Hotmail).

Couldn’t even delete the account from the accounts list in settings/mail.

Had to completely erase the Mail app.

after reinstalling and reactivating all mail accounts (I have multiple mail accounts including iCloud and both Hotmail and MS Exchange business emails) the problem was solved.

at first the tech support had me deactivating the mail feature in each account individually (one by one) to see if this helped. This is how we noticed that the Hotmail account wouldn’t deactivate when tapping the green slider.

maybe you can try this first also?
