Battery concern about iPad with external display

Just bought a monitor with a usbc port up to 90w charing power, and found out my iPad gets warm when I’m using Apple Pencil to drop notes, and even comes up a notification states like “Resume charging when the battery cools down”.

So my question is could using iPad while charging as I need to connect to the monitor for hours? What possible damage would cost?

Presumably your monitor supports USB PD (Power Delivery) - and has its own power input. As such, when your iPad is connected to your monitor via a second USB-C connection, the monitor will provide power to (and charge) your iPad.

If your iPad becomes to hot when running, or charging, the iPad will automatically stop charging from the connected power source until it cools down.

Overheating generally occurs when running CPU/graphics intensive tasks at hight screen brightness. High ambient temperatures and/or when the iPad is being used in some types of case, can also cause the iPad to become to warm in some circumstances.

If you have any concerns, you would be best advised to seek assistance directly from from Apple Support - and request a remote diagnostic test. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page.

Alternatively, you can initiate and manage your support cases from Apple devices using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to hands-on test and assess your iPad:

The problem it’s I will be using GoodNotes to drop notes, while watching online class, when it’s gets hot, it doesn’t feel good to my hand, and iPad only stops charging when it gets “real hot”.

Doesn’t consider this as heavy workload, especially to M1 Chip.

Any Solution? Will iPad learn in some way, that eventually stop charging while above say 80% of battery level, or I’ve to buy a usb-c to hdmi cable, to avoid charging during my daily use. Thank you!
