music in iMovie

I can't insert a music song into my movie in iMovie, although the music was perched on apple music. The song appears as 'protected'.

Your observation is correct. Apple Music is DRM (Digital Rights Management) protected and cannot be used in iMovie. Also, Apple Music is a subscription service that is intended for streaming songs for personal listening, not for downloading into an app. The subscriber is simply renting the song, so to speak, and does not own it. The use of the song requires maintaining the subscription. Otherwise one could download hundreds of songs inexpensively and then cancel the subscription, thus obviating the purpose of the service.

However, one can download songs from iTunes for about $1.29 each, and those can be used in iMovie.
