Is there an absolutely free virus removal app, virus scan app, or a virus protection app I can use for my iPhone 12?
What little malware is around is very rare and targeted, based in available information.
Anti-malware detection and removal is built into iOS.
Some of the usual scams use advertisements seeking to convince a user their device is compromised when it isn’t, and seeking to convince the user to DO SOMETHING! and to load some unnecessary or problematic app.
More than a little of the add-on anti-malware — what some of the sketchy ads are advertising — is getting hard to distinguish from malware, too.

Why would you need an "anti-virus" for your phone that isn't going to do anything and ask you to pay for nothing every month.
I haven't run anti-virus on a Mac computer in almost 30 years. Anti-virus programs on a Mac are more trouble than they are worth given that there hasn't been a true virus on Macs in decades. The Mac operating system has a lot of security features built in.

Avast, the iPhone is generally well protected
Data sold reportedly included:
That collection and sale being a behavior which reeks of being malware?
And “generally well protected”, what was provided above and beyond what the built-in anti-malware provides?
Preferably without added performance or power or stability issues, and preferably without added privacy leaks?
My iPhone 12 Pro Max suddenly started having severe power loss and starts getting hot; not warm; during normal use. I did a FACTORY reset; not settings reset, which I thought wiped the phone; but now the issue seems worse. Phone is in near-mint condition and in a mil-spec case. Never had over heating issue before so this is out of the blue. Also heats up while plugged in.

Go to Settings>Battery>Battery Health. What is the maximum capacity? If it's less than 80%, you need a new battery. If it isn't below 80%, there could still be something wrong. Contact Apple and arrange for them to run diagnostics:
