How to get rid of a "get ready for your new iPhone" message in settings?

Six months ago I bought a new iPhone for my wife. The settings in my iPhone immediately said 'get ready for your new iPhone'. She has set hers up (on her own iD) and been using it for 6 months - but I can't get rid of the increasingly annoying large message in settings telling me to 'get ready for my new iPhone. I see loads of people have had the same issue in the past - but no-one seems to have a solution. Please help!

The "Get ready for your new iPhone" message is a standard message that appears in Settings when you have recently purchased a new iPhone using the same Apple ID. It is intended to remind you to backup your data to iCloud so that you can transfer it to your new iPhone.

There are a few ways to get rid of the "Get ready for your new iPhone" message:

  • Make an iCloud backup of your data. This will remove the message and also ensure that your data is backed up in case something happens to your current iPhone.
  • Turn off iCloud backup. This will also remove the message, but it will mean that you will not be able to back up your data to iCloud.
  • Wait 21 days. The message will automatically expire after 21 days.

If you have already made an iCloud backup of your data, you can simply turn off iCloud backup to get rid of the message. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Tap on Your Name at the top of the screen.
  3. Tap on iCloud.
  4. Tap on Backup.
  5. Toggle off the iCloud Backup switch.

Once you have turned off iCloud backup, the "Get ready for your new iPhone" message will disappear.

If you do not want to turn off iCloud backup, you can also wait 21 days for the message to expire. The message will automatically disappear after 21 days, even if you have not made an iCloud backup.

Hey there David Hensley1,

We'd like to help by ruling out some possible causes, along with learning more about what's happening:

  1. Where exactly do you see the message 'get ready for your new iPhone' within the Settings app in your own iPhone?
  2. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart: Restart your iPhone
  3. Since you have a compatible iPhone model, the latest version is iOS 16.5.1. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then update: Update your iPhone or iPad

Cheers!
