So when I try to update my Apple Watch via the Watch app in my iPhone, there keeps coming a message that I have to update my iPhone first, but when I go to Settings to check, I already have the newest update. Does anyone know how to fix this bug?

With a little more research I found out the iPhone X is not compatible with iOS 17 and therefore I won’t be able to update my Apple Watch 6 above OS 9. I have to purchase a new iPhone XS or newer to get OS 10, even though I have a perfectly fine iPhone X.
As mentioned before, the message is misleading. The message should say “OS 10 update is only available for iPhone XS and later. “

I agree. But in a very rare situation it happens like this. I had this problem when I bought my watch series 4, and I bought it when it was launched. After that I never had to face the same problem. Hope it’s same for you too. 😊
I have an iPhone 15 pro max but keep using my Apple Watch serie 6 stainless steel since it works just fine. (+ultra is a waste of money) but same thing, never before till today feb 16th the watch required updated, check the iPhone app and it says I need to update iPhone but is up to date (unless is referring to any sort of beta). Apple please don’t go it again and force us quite using perfectly functional old device via software that’s shady enough already
am have the same issue with my phone, I try connecting my Apple Watch to my iPhone it keeps telling me to update software on my iPhone and my phone keeps saying it updated. So tired trying to get it right and it’s not working.
I also have this problem. I’m in Australia and have an iPhone 13 Pro Max running iOS 16.5.1 with a watch series 4 running 9.5.1.
It is an iPhone X with iOS 16.5.1 and my watch is on watchOS 9.5.1

I unpaired and then repaired many times but this issue is still persisting. I have IPhone X and apple watch 8
To load the Watch update Ver 10 there is poor message to Update iPhone software first. This is misleading. I clicked settings, and it reported my software was up to date. Ver 16.. Where it should remind you that to get Watch Ver 10 you need IOS17 which means you need to update the phone.
Wasted a lot of time and when trying to discover a fix for this, I now have a half deleted Watch App that won't delete or reinstall. Apple please be clearer with error messages.
