Problem backing up to external hard drive.

When I try backing up to external hard drive, I get a message Backup Drive Not Available; try backing up again when My Passport is available. This happens when I have the My Passport disc inserted. Also another message indicates to be sure backup disc is connected or select a different backup disc. I only have the one My Passport disc. I don't know what to do and would appreciate any suggestion.

MacBook Air, macOS 13.4

If it is connect through a Hub, try direct connecting (an adaptor is fine, just not a hub or "dock").

It could be that the drive is powering down because it is demanding too much current from the port. You would see the "Disk ejected improperly" notification, though.

are you trying to backup using Time Machine or WD's backup or WD my Cloud ? also check if your WD drive is in ExFAT format otherwise your backup will fail even if you use NTFS driver.
