Side eye emoji request for iPhone

Who is the "we" you presume to speak for? And "need" is a fairly strong word. I think perhaps you mean "want".

There's no reason for the Unicode Consortium to add a side eye emoji when it already exists.

Dear Apple, I know you are a very busy company, please do us the honor of adding this emoji to the collection, I understand there is already a side eye emoji, however this one is far superior in all factors. Thank you for your time.

You could flag that to the consortium. They like new flags. 😉

But I think they already know emoji are a source of trouble, except for their use as a mechanism to encourage upgrades, and also as a test of character- and text-parsing code.

Parsing code? Swift will (correctly) return true 🤔 for the following range test, for instance:

("0"..."9").contains("1️⃣")

Which initially got the topic-appropriate 😒 side eye scowl, and then the 🫣 duality from me, as that particular emoji decomposes into 1. Lots and lots of other source code around won’t correctly decompose that 1️⃣, and won’t deal correctly with Unicode more generally. 😒
