What are the best Photo Scanners with USB-C Connection for Mac?

Hi---

I need a new photo scanner that works with a USB-C connection.

I have an Epson Perfection V600 Photo scanner. It doesn't work with my new MacBook Pro (which only has USB-C ports, no USB ports). The Epson customer service rep told that the problem is that scanner requires a direct USB connection. A converter won't work. I bought a special cable (USB Type-C Male to USB Type-B Male) hoping that it would work but alas. No success. There might be a solution out there but I don't know what it is. I'm ready for a new scanner. Any recommendations?

I have some thoughts which may be useful. Your USB connection may not actually be the issue. Yes, you do need to either have a cable with the right connecters or a converter to connect the scanner. Oftentimes the problem is that you need to download current Epson software for the scanner which works with your current Mac operating system. If none is available, then typically the VueScan app will do the job. It is a full featured software app which you can try for free. It will have a watermark until it is purchased. I use it and can recommend it. I have no association with VueScan.

Thanks for your response. I've tried this type of adaptor and it did not work. Any scanner recommendations?

This type of adapter, or this adapter? I’ve used this adapter for some weird connections, too. Various of the other available USB-C adapters are less than functional.

As for scanners, I use Brother MFC-class multi-function laser printers. Whether the scanning resolution available with of one of those meets your needs?

Hi, Marty 1216, Maybe you need updated drivers, which are available here: https://epson.ca/Support/Scanners/Perfection-Series/Epson-Perfection-V600-Photo/s/SPT_B11B198011....your USB-B to USB-C cable looks like it should work, Have you tried using Preview to do a test scan? (very nice scanner, btw), if the scanner is halfways TWAIN compliant it'll show up there, and you can scan from it.....

I used to use an Epson 1600 with photo negative attachment to scan over 4,000 slides and negative..... I'm sure the V600 would be quite the step up from that

hope this helps

OK. This is my situation. I downloaded VueScan (the Catalina version). I turned on my scanner and opened VueScan. Here's the error message I received:

"No plugin found

"VueScan found Epson Perfection V600 but no plugin for this scanner was found on your system.

"Make sure you've downloaded the ICA Scanner Driver for this scanner from www.epson.com."

Sheesh. If Epson had the drivers for my OS, I wouldn't be in this mess. Any ideas??

I'm writing with apologies to all who tried to help me. The problem was on my end. My browser blocked the necessary drivers on the Epson site. When I switched to a different browser, my computer recognized my scanner and my scanner made its cheerful welcome chirp. Thanks to everyone who offered a suggestion -- and probably wondered why I could not see what they were seeing. Now I see it and the scanner works. I'm grateful!

Ditto - the Apple adapter would not work consistently for me. I spoke at length with Canon Support who informed me that while the Apple connector works the best of all connectors, there remain problems. In my case, I needed to disconnect the USB A to USB C connector and then reassemble and plug it into a different port on back of my 2024 iMac. It would work once and then I needed to go through the whole routine again. Canon had no other solution. So, I purchased an Epson wifi device which does not work with the same speed or ease as the Canon ImageFormula scanner. The Epson XP-7100 combo printer/scanner sucks ink at a much faster rate than my previous HP printer while the scanner is very slow.
