Photoleap app has charged me even after i cancelled my 7 day free trail

Hi,

I was using an app called Photoleap on a 7 day free trail. I cancelled it before I would be charged after the 7 day trail, two days prior.

Upon checking my bank account today, the company has charged me for a yearly subscription at £39.00.

I have also contacted the company, but they haven’t responded yet.

How can I claim my money back?

Thanks,

James

You can contact them on photoleap.web.support@lightricks.com - it's on their invoice. I emailed them today after seeing the charge and they've refunded me immediately will just take 5-10 days. It's a pretty crappy way to run a business by hiding their subscription cancellation in app only rather than the usual subscription in accounts, I didn't recognise the charge (had deleted the app and no subscription in my account that I could see) and tried going through my bank as I had no idea what it was, they couldn't help. So email first.

PhotoLeap has a Free Trial offer on their website. Some apps will prefer you to sign up for a subscription to avoid Apple's payment processing. When this is done, you need to cancel the trial on the website where you signed up since they are billing you directly and Apple is not involved in cancelling the subscription. If you do not see the subscription when using this link, then that is the case.

If you want to cancel a subscription from Apple - Apple Support

Go to the PhotoLeap website and use the button to Manage Your Account. If you have the option to cancel there, then they are billing you directly and bypassing Apple.

To request a refund for a purchase made using an in-app Purchase, you can use the link below. When made on the website, you will have to deal with PhotoLeap directly and if they refuse, then your only option is to dispute the charge with the bank of your payment method.

It is not unusual for an app to also have subscription offers available on their website to avoid cancelling the subscription using the normal methods provided by Apple when it is done with an in-app purchase. Netflix and YouTube are two other examples of apps that also use this method to manage your subscription on their website.

This has happened to me. I unsubscribed two days before the trail ended. Go to my paid history etc not there. So, I called my bank and reported fraud. My bank has froze my account so nobody can take money from Apple apps. I don’t have any paid apps so, I am asking them to keep it on (so they can’t try again).

I have emailed them and gave them my apple receipt (thanks Apple). I am waiting to hear back. But this is scummy of Photoleap to do. I have done many free trails and this has never happened before. Shame on you Photoleap. When somebody unsubscribes doesn’t mean you take their money. The email I found has also linked to send you to apple subscription to nothing. I better get my money back.

I've had the same issue and had to contact my credit card provider to see what can be done. If you used Apple Pay to pay for it then you're sh*t outta luck because they told me I must have completed this transaction if it was from my phone. Its so annoying and scary that apps can take money from us unprompted and nothing can be done about it. Hoping Apple fixes this immediately!!
