Apple Mail returned to Sender

I have been getting a number of Mail Delivery System notices that say "Undelivered mail return to sender" on @me.com email address. The error notice reads as follows "


<EmailA@gmail>: host

   alt1.gmail-smtp-in.l.google said: 452-4.2.2 The email

   account that you tried to reach is over quota. Please direct 452-4.2.2 the

   recipient to 452 4.2.2 support.google.com/mail/?p=OverQuotaTemp

   e2-20020a056870c34200b001aa2250d30esi3523559oak.202 - gsmtp (in reply to

   RCPT TO command)"


Sometimes it has many additional lines like this, sometimes not, but that statement is always the first thing in the body of the returned e-mail error message.


All this seems to imply that some of my apple account mail addressed to @me.com is somehow being routed through a G Mail account. The thing is...I do not have a G Mail account. So I don't know what quota they are talking about since I have certainly not surpassed a G Mail quota since I don't have an account. I've gotten these messages off and on for years but suddenly yesterday there were at least 20 of them. As far as I can tell I haven't surpassed any Apple Mail quota amounts either.


Anybody have any idea what this is about and how I can fix it? Thanks.

If you're seeing those messages it's likely a bounce back email from an email you attempted to send. Your email provider wouldn't send those emails to you, but they would send them to people attempting to contact you if there is an issue with the account.


Do you only get these when sending emails?


If not and you're getting them randomly, you'll want to reach out to Google support to see if they can help determine where they're coming from: Google Help

Hi Bryan, thank you for your response. You are correct, these are 100% messages sent to my @me.com mail address that have been returned to the original sender. When they are returned I get a notification from the "Mail Delivery System" that Undelivered mail was returned to Sender. The text of the Returned Mail notification indicates that the mail was returned because that account had exceeded its g-mail quota.


What I was hoping for by posting this question is that someone can explain to me why, mail sent to me at my @me.com mail address is somehow getting routed through a g-mail account when I don't have, and have never had, a g-mail account.


I will try and contact Google support and see if they can explain.


As a mentioned, this has happened periodically through the years and I didn't think anything of it because it seemed random. But last week I got about 30 of these Returned Mail notification in one day. Without going through each one I don't know if I'm missing important e-mails that are being returned. It's weird and perplexing and annoying. Again, thanks for your response and advice.
