MacBook Air terminal not working

Whenever I restart my MacBook and I try to open the terminal thing before it gets to the login screen (With command+S) It only pops up for one second and I can’t type anything. Anyone know how to fix this?

Mac startup key combinations - Apple Support

Shows Command-S (start up in single-user mode) as an option for Intel-based Macs – but also says the feature is disabled in macOS Mojave and later.

OWC's Rocket Yard blog describes ways of getting into single-user mode on Intel Macs with T2 security chips and on Apple Silicon Macs. These are more complicated and require you to know a password.
