You mean it shut down and said it had gotten so hot it’s temperature exceeded safe limits? If that did not happen it didn’t overheat. Getting warm, or even hot, is not “overheating “.

Is it connected through a wireless charger? Or is the connection to CarPlay via Bluetooth? Is the phone using cellular data, or does your car have Wi-Fi through a cellular connection? And is the phone in the sun?

I’d like to get a clear view of the operating scenario.

i don’t understand people who jump in and post without all the facts. I never said my iPhone displayed a message nor that it paused charging. What I said was that my iPhone 12 recently started getting very (unusually) hot when connected to Apple CarPlay (wirelessly I should add). It was not charging at all, just placed on a cloth on my console on a cool day with the a/c on. This was by the way on a very short drive on only 15 min.

I have a Google Pixel and an iPhone 13. The iPhone overheats with CarPlay every time. The Pixel never even gets mildly warm with Android Auto, no matter how many apps I’m using or if it’s in direct sunlight. Clearly this is an Apple problem.

Really, do you think that is ok that iphone on car play like half an hour has 50 deg celsius. Display off, fully charged when connected? You think it is no problem. I had iphone 11 and even after 2 hours drive it was still cold.

Your iPhone 11 did not support 5G, which uses a lot more energy than 4G/LTE, both because it is faster, and also 5G towers are further apart as the network is still being built out, and weaker signals require more power. You verified that switching to 4G verified that the problem was most likely the 5G connection.

I’m sure you will be very happy with a Samsung. I’ve never heard any complaints of any kind about Samsung products.

This has been happening to me for over a year now. Not only does it get INCREDIBLY hot, apps will fail to work and the cell reception drops to almost nothing (location does not matter, only if it's overheating).

So, Spotify will stop playing, Google Maps becomes delayed, etc.

My phone over heats and shuts off. iPhone X (I’m afraid I am poverty stricken and cannot afford a new iPhone. I don’t feel I belong amongst you iPhone 12 and 14 users). Atleast you get an overheating message. Hyundai Tucson 2024. CarPlay makes my X hot and then the screen goes black. No message.

I am having the same problem. I even took my case off to see if that helped. I am wondering if it is our cords? I know I have had my cord for so long.

If the phone is still operating it is not overheating. When it overheats it shuts down completely.

I'm OK with the pause while charging but why is it getting hot while wirelessly connected to CarPlay and NOT charging? The phone does not get hot at any other time.

Not Wireless charging, connected to CarPlay via Bluetooth, cellular data, phone not in the sun.
