Time Machine back up always fails to complete, not enough space?

Time Machine is on an external HD 1T partitioned 250GM 250GB 500GB, always fails to back up not enough space. HOW can I change Time Machine to my iMac Fusion Drive and then I can formate the external HD and perhaps let time machine use the entire HD.

I am runningOS Venturea 13.2 - How can I change Time Machine from an external drive to the Fusion drive of my I Mac?

Time Machine needs more space Hello, I have not used Time Machine for a long time, but now I want to back up because of the new OS. I get a 750GB HDD, format it and use it for Backup. After a while, there is a message: Can not complete Backups. In the Backup Tab, it says: 37.47 GB available. But my system disk total Capacity is only 500 GB with 24 GB still available. When I look into the 750 GB HDD, I see 3 Folders in there with a Time Machine Icon, all with today's date and a long serial number after. When Get Info, it says 0 Byte on all 3 Folders. The drive Information says 292.37 GB free. But why does it say 37.47 GB is available? If it creates a Backup every hour and it is running out of space, then it should delete the very first backup to make room for the latest. This is how I understand how a Backup System works. Should I upgrade my Time Machine drive for successful backups? 2015 iMac running 12.7.4, can't upgrade because of older machine. I have three external drives each new 4 TB SSD's. They have .4 TB, 3.4 TB and 3.5TB of data. So around 7.3 TB of data. My Time Machine drive is 10 TB and Get Info says it has 2.8 TB of available space. I've never had a backup problem but just got this message "Time Machine could not back up the disk “Videos” because a snapshot of the disk could not be created." I read that this could be about space. Do I need a bigger drive even though it has been working with no issues until now and has 2.8TB of available space? Other than a few office docs I've not added any new data. [Re-Titled By Moderator]

Can't erase external hard drive:in use process 367 Tried to set up new external hard drive for time machine: wouldn't back up because the (presumably Mac) hard drive is nearly full. Now the external hard drive won't erase (process 367) so I can't use it to back up files from the Mac hard drive.

How much data is there on your Fusion Drive? The backup drive needs to be 2x-3x that size.

Just erase the external and start the backup anew.
