Airpod Max - Popping/Crackling noise when NC is active.

Does anyone else experience random popping and crackling noises when Noise Cancellation is active? It seems to always happen randomly when the bass kicks in. 2nd pair of Brand new Airpod Max right out the box, both pairs had the same issues! Unbelievable!

After some more testing, I found that there is a conflict with other bluetooth device connected at the same time.

I my case, it is clearly that the Logitech's mouse MX anywhere 3 or other Logitech mouse cause the conflict with bluetooth headset, any brand, not just apple brand.

As soon I turn off the power from the mouse, the sound on headset came back clear like before.

So I decided to connect the Logitech software call Logitech Option+ via its USB wireless receiver for now.

I don't know if this is the Logitech's driver issue or Apple's issue.

So hope someone from apple git us a hint on this.

On my mac book pro M1, I have a bluetooth Keyboard Nuphy Air75 v2, a bluetooh Logitech MX Anywhare 3, and Airpod Max.

After some more testing, I found that the Airpod Max had conflict with other bluetooth Headsets, any brand not just Apple.

Hey OP,

I have now been experiencing the same issues with my Airpods Max for around two weeks.

As soon as ANC is activated I have an unbearable crackling noise in the right ear cup. The only remedy against it is turning of noise cancellation (So no hardware issue).

However I have this issue with an without playing audio. I will bring back mine tomorrow for repair.

Hi there,

Same issue here, mine recently started making a loud static noise when I put the Airpod Max on and after this, the lead ear cup keeps a crackling noise when ANC or Transparency mode is enabled. I also bought a new pair of ear cushions since my original had an issue too and I thought the crackling sound could be due to not properly sealling, but even if a new pair of ear cushions crackling sounds remain.

Apple created this issue in some firmware update.

I also had an issue with the mesh band.

It sounds like Airpods MAX requires a recall as Apple did with the Airpod Pro 1st gen.

It's a premium product but...sounds like Apple doesn't care about this issue.

Yes, I have the same problem now as I am typing, it is so sad that it started this issue a few month ago and it will not go away.

macOS Sonoma 14.3, Airpod 3rd gen, Airpod Max.

Airpod 3rd gen also experiencing the same problem.

So, I decided to purchase an earbuds noise cancellation from https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B1LJFBPY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This works way better then apple product. No more spending stupid money from now on.

Hope apple do something about this soon!.
