Is the iCloud password recovery process a scam?

Lost my iPhone at 11:00am today been using different iPhones for over 10 years. Password recovery should not take more than a minute. Until now 11:40 PM I cannot get access to find my iPhone. Therefore I completely lost track of my device. Apple iforgot immediate recovery service keeps verifying codes from my email and my phone number (I had to run to AT&T to activate a phone with my number so I can get the code). Went to the Apple store they could not help. Apple customer support did not even know what the recovery process was about. I am not sure if Apple hires qualified personnel or even train them on Apple products. No recovery for me. Only option is to wait until Apple evaluate my information (I don’t even know what is the use of the evaluation and how is it done without asking me or even asking for my ID for instance (which can be done at the Apple store if they are really concerned about security as so they claim.) the recovery procedure assures that if you have access to your email and phone you can immediately reset your password when I keep getting the evaluation message and that somebody with email me in couple of hours (it’s been over 10 hours) on top of that they give you a message that you can check the status on iforgot.apple when you click on it it gives you a cannot reach site message lol yes I am using safari . I am sure they paid the hosting fees. What’s the solution? Mercy from the robot verifying my info (store visit does not count)!!

update, they sent me an email today! I will be able to reset my password after 13 days from today. By that time if I get access to find my device it will be either turned off or already stolen/used by someone else. Great security measures from apple to protect US consumers. So if you ever lost your phone and forget your Apple ID password get ready for a 2 week wait until they verify your identity (they somehow verify it immediately if you are trying to buy something they all of a sudden find all your devices and send them notices to “allow” your request. It contradicts the idea of security. If you think about it, it actually expose you to an unknown source whoever got your phone they have 2 weeks to steel your data. When apple’s revolutionary 2 weeks verification process gives you access to find my iPhone, your iPhone is already gone and your data is sold/stolen! On another note, they do tell you in the little 13 days notification window that if you can receive messages on your phone number associated with your Apple ID you can recover your password immediately and they provide with a little link to do so. Once done and you enter your verification code, it tells you again that they are evaluating your request!! I don’t know if this falls under deceiving consumers. Serious failure in the recovery system process and I do not know who benefits from this long wait when they can ask you to present your ID at any of the many Apple stores or on the phone/email. I am ashamed that I paid thousands of my dollars to buy Apple devices. These guys are only interested selling a product not servicing it. This is making US consumers vulnerable to getting their personal data stolen making it easier for criminals to reach you at your home and possibly know everything about your family. Is this a security measure Apple? If I want to verify someone I ask them for their ID immediately why do I have to wait 13 days specially that this phone is connected to a carrier that charges monthly for running it I have credit cards PayPal, government IDs and verified carriers to verify my identity on top of that Apple charges me monthly subscriptions for Apple Music!!!!!!

You are talking about two factor authentication and its account recovery process. This isn’t Apple’s invention, this security feature is becoming industry standard. It’s the account holder’s responsibility to keep track of their password, too.

As for your concern regarding singing gaining access to your device. They can’t since you would have a passcode to lock it, there is no way to bypass it.

Yes that’s true. I do have a passcode. I know my ID I could not find the password for it. This ID is over 10 years old and it’s tied to many old apps. I do not download apps anymore since couple years back. I have another Apple ID for contacts and messages this one I know the password.

When I change phones I use the automatic migration feature and I remember I used the same password for my other ID tried a few passwords then I got locked from Apple. While it’s my responsibility to keep up with the passwords, it is also apple’s responsibility to create a way to retrieve it specially in an emergency case like loosing your phone. It does not make any sense why there is a way to retrieve passwords if you have to wait 13 days. The issue here is way bigger than just responsibility.
