We'd be happy to provide you with some information. We tested this with our device and if you receive an iMessage while airplane mode is enabled, the time the iMessage was sent shows on your device when you turn off airplane mode.

If you're using SMS/MMS messages you'll need to reach out to your wireless carrier for more information.
