Update devices using iCloud for screen time?

I was trying to set Downtime on my son’s iPad through Family settings but got a pop-up error message saying I need to update his devices “using iCloud for screen time” and that Downtown would not apply until his device software has been updated (see attached screenshot). This seems to imply that I should be able to update his iPad software from my device (iPhone) but I cannot find where/how to do this. Can anyone shed light on how?

Hello vivavivaluna,

The iPad will need to be updated individually. You can find steps to update here: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Update your iPhone or iPad wirelessly

1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4. If you see more than one software update option available, choose the one that you want to install.
5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.

The error is stating the iPad needs to be updated, however, we encourage you to keep your device up-to-date too.

Regards.

I’m having an issue doing screen time for my daughter iPhone 15 I have the 15 pro max and both are updated and still I can not get control over her phone I been dealing with this since iOS 17.03 and back and fourth with apple still it’s not working. I can control my other daughters phone just fine using my iPhone and her phone is a Samsung I use family link for google no problem. I don’t understand why I can’t even control another apple when I’m set up as the parent! Come on apple fix this!
