Pencil and IPad

I can’t get my pencil to work every time I try. Do they loose battery life just sitting? I then pair it with each use.

iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 11

Apple Pencil not connecting anymore My Apple Pencil will not show in my connected devices nor work anymore. I used it without issues for about four/five months until one day it stopped working. I have recharged it and updated my iPad to the latest version with no success. Also tried disconnecting and forgetting the Pencil but it won’t show again; as well as tried turning my iPad off and on again.

The Pencil battery can be weak and can fail, yes.

And yes, a Pencil that is stored uncharged can cause a battery to fail.

Charge your Apple Pencil and check the battery - Apple Support

If the Pencil still loses its settings after charging for 12 hours or so, it’s likely failed.
