Since updating to iPad iOS 16.5.1 Face ID is no longer working. Is there a software issue. I've tried to reset it but it won't allow me to record my face. I am using an iPad Pro but I'm not sure which generation. It's about two years old?

Did you already try to set your iPad back to factory settings, without using a backup, set it up as a new iPad and test FaceID?
Restore your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to factory settings
If FaceID does not work after that, you should get your device diagnosed by visiting an authorised Apple Service Provider next to your place.
You can also contact Apple Support directly and ask, if they can diagnose your device online.

Only setting the iPad back to factory settings on your computer can make sure, that this is not software related.
Updating wirelessly will only replace the new parts of iOS. Unchanged parts will stay on your device, thus the smaller size of the update.
If you create a backup on your computer before you start, you still can restore your data afterwards.
I just tried turning the device off and on again, having previously done that several times yesterday and this morning, and I was able to reset Face ID. Thanks for your help though.

Glad, that restarting your iPad solved the issue.
Face ID was working perfectly until I installed the latest iOS update. I have not tried to re-set the iPad to factory settings. That seems a 'last resort" option.
