Move to iOS

I used Move to iOS to shift my photos and Whatsapp from my android device to my new iPhone.

In the move, all photos have been transferred to a "recents" folder on iPhone, and I can't differentiate the photos of whatsapp from those of camera roll.

How can I fix this (I want separate folder for camera roll and whatsapp)? There are about 55k photos in the recents folder now.

As IdrisSeabright suggested, you can create Albums, but you would need to distinguish first what was a camera image and what was a WhatsApp image.

If you clicked on the `i` icon for a photo and it didn't tell you "Saved from WhatsApp" in the metadata, unfortunately it sounds like this was stripped in the transfer. Meaning, you'd have to determine which are which and add them to the albums as suggested.

If you can still log into WhatsApp and download the photos, a photo album named "WhatsApp" should automatically be generated and the photos would go in there and in Recents. Obviously this would create duplicates with the data already in there. There is a "Merge" and "Merge All" button though.

Hello Musketeer1234,

Recents is a default camera album that cannot be removed. By default, it stores all photos and sorts them by what photos were added recently. Usually this will be time-based but obviously if you add a lot of photos at once this can appear out of order. To view photos in order you should click on Library.

I'm not too familiar with WhatsApp or transferring from Android to iPhone. Could you search your albums and see if a "WhatsApp" album was created. This would be a good way of distinguishing which are which. Again, everything goes in the Library and within the Recents album. There is no way to remove them from Recents, but have them in other albums.

If there is no album, you can try click on any photo within the Recents album and clicking that `i` icon. It might tell you here if the photo was from WhatsApp or not, along with telling you other data about the photo / video taken.

I hope this helps!

Hello - thanks for picking this up. Please note that I don't want to know if a particular image is from whatsapp or from camera.

Also, there was no whatsapp or whatsapp images folder created.

Now, the library and recents folder - both of them look like a mess, where all the photos have been dumped.

What I want to see is - separate folder for camera images and whatsapp images. Is there some way of doing that?

Thanks @pjswiz and @IdrisSeabright

  1. Whatsapp album is not being created. I fail to understand why move to iOS didn't copy the whatsapp folder as it is? It copied every other folder/album from android, other than this one.
  2. For the images transferred - We are talking about 50k images - mix of camera and whatsapp. I possibly can't click on "i" for all the images and manually transfer them to a different folder.
  3. For the new downloads from whatsapp, and for the new images from camera, I'd want them to go automatically into respective folders.

Is there some way to do this automatically?
