Car Bluetooth Issue with Apple Music

I have an issue where when I use my iPhone 12 Mini to stream my Apple Music station via bluetooth in the car, after a while (sometimes after one song, sometimes after a few) the car display no longer updates - i.e. it shows whatever song and album cover was active when it froze. Music continues to play fine, and the display on the phone updates, but the car display does not. When this happens, sometimes using the car controls to advance the song will still work, and sometimes not. I haven't found any way to cause the connection to "reset" - i.e. changing inputs and returning, etc.

I lived with this for quite some time as my car was 12 years old - I figured I was lucky the bluetooth connection worked at all. This week I upgraded to a brand new 2023 vehicle (Volvo XC40) and it does exactly the same thing.

Any ideas?

There could be a few reasons why the car display in your Volvo XC40 is not updating while streaming Apple Music via Bluetooth. Here are some possible explanations:

  1. It's possible that there is a compatibility issue between your car's infotainment system and the Bluetooth connection with your iPhone. Sometimes, different car models or software versions have compatibility problems with specific phone models or operating systems. You may want to check for any available firmware or software updates for your car's infotainment system to see if they address this issue. Apple Music through Google Assistant - Volvo XC40 Forums
  2. Bluetooth connections can sometimes experience interruptions or dropouts, which can affect the communication between your iPhone and the car's display. These interruptions may result in the car display freezing and not updating while the music continues to play. To troubleshoot this, you can try resetting the Bluetooth connection between your iPhone and your car, or try deleting and re-pairing the devices. Power lines, radio or television. transmitters, transformers and other electronic devices may cause noise on the phone line. --> Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless ...
  3. It's also worth checking if there are any specific display settings on your car's infotainment system that may affect the updating of information from your iPhone. Look for settings related to music display or album cover updates and ensure they are configured correctly. This forum has some discussion thread on this --> Apple Music App
  4. It's possible that there may be a software bug or glitch in either the car's infotainment system. If this is the case, reaching out to Volvo might be helpful, as they can provide specific guidance or potential solutions for the issue. Using Apple®CarPlay® | Volvo Support MT

It's recommended to consult the user manual for your Volvo XC40 or contact the car manufacturer's support for further assistance in troubleshooting this specific issue. They may have additional insights or steps to resolve the problem.
