Duracell CR2032 Not working on AirTag?

Looks like Duracell batteries are not working on Apple AirTag, despite being same spec as OEM CR2032. Any new CR2032 cell battery should work since the spec stands for (C) lithium chemistry battery with a (R) round shape that has a diameter of (20) 20 millimeters and a height of (32) 3.2 millimeters with a 3 volt capacity.

Some forums indicate that the coating to provide Duracell batteries with bitter taste seams to prevents them from working.

Tested the battery and is full. Will try clean it with alcohol.

Thanks for sharing. By the way, I see that they are not referring to a specific brand, but to batteries with treatments to embitter them, which seems to be the case with Duracell as it is the most popular brand with this characteristic. In any case, after several tries I was able to solve it easily by putting the battery on a paper towel applying a little household alcohol and rubbing it on both sides with the paper. Ready! It worked perfectly. This gives me peace of mind as in the past I have not been able to use Duracell batteries in Airtags and the ones I have tried have not lasted as long as the OEM Battery they came with, now with the Duracell cleaned I hope it will work longer.

Hello DAFdz,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

When reviewing article, How to replace the battery in your AirTag - Apple Support, it does have the following statement:

"CR2032 batteries with bitterant coatings might not work with AirTag or other battery-powered products, depending on the alignment of the coating in relation to the battery contacts."

There is no list of specific brands that contain this coating, so you may need to check the retail packaging to see if it's on the battery before making your purchase.

Best regards.
