Keyboard Replacement Program

I recently sent in my 2019 MacBook Air for the Keyboard replacement program and now they are charging me $279 for the battery replacement. I though the battery replacement came with the keyboard replacement? Is there a way to get it fixed without having to pay?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 12.6

As far as I know, you are not guaranteed a free battery replacement with the keyboard replacement program (which is just about to expire for the last of the models it covers).

It’s been reported that if you have a defective keyboard serviced under the program, you’ll get.a new battery for free because of the way everything is connected together in the top case. But if Apple has figured out a cigar-effective way of replacing just the keyboard alone, they theoretically would not need to offer you a new battery for free.

if you really want to know what they will or won’t do, you’ll need to ask them.

If the original battery is in good condition and the keyboard is defective, you could try declining the battery replacement and politely insisting on the keyboard one.

if the original battery is in poor shape, they may be trying to charge you based on the fine print on the service program page that says

“Note: If your MacBook, MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro has any damage which impairs the service, that issue will need to be repaired first. In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the repair.”
