Vpn and device managment

I was looking at a video about how to know if your iphone has a virus. And at some part they talked about VPN and device managment. I went there on my iPhone and there was “Wifi” and when i clicked it said “not signed”. Is it normal for it to be there or does that mean i have a virus?

The simple answer is your phone does not have a virus; an iPhone that is kept up to date with iOS releases is for all practical purposes immune from viruses.

If you found a profile in Settings/General/VPN & Device Management it is there because you put it there. It is not possible to install a profile without the consent of the iPhone user, and it might have been a profile for your Wi-Fi administrator. If you deleted it and everything continued to work you are safe.

But if you are still worried and want to be extra secure restore the phone to factory settings and do not restore a backup; set up the phone as new→Restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support

Hi there,

im killian. i will be helping you through your problem here with the VPN & Device management section.

ask you asked if this is there by default, the answer is No. the "Wifi" Configuration file should not be there by default. in fact, nothing is usually there until you add it yourself. what i recommend you do is: remove this setting by pressing on it and then the delete button. this should remove this from your device.

as for the part where you express concern for the "Virus", i cannot say for sure what this holds. everything on your iPhone is usually signed, as this is what verifies the safety of the profile. what i suggest is you bring it to an apple store maybe and see if a technician can verify any of those things for you..

I am sorry i could not be of great help today, but i hope that i helped you in some way. i hope you have a good day and if you require further help, please simply respond to this message and i will try my best to get back to you

Thank you

Killian

Your iPhone doesn't have a virus unless you have jailbroken it. Have you? If you have not, what are you seeing on your phone that made you start checking?

You can check to see if you have a VPN or profile installed:

It's not clear what "Wifi" has to do with this. Are you saying it's the name of a profile? Screen shots are always helpful.

Take everything you were told in that video and toss it in the trash bin of your brain.

You can’t trust any of it… There are no known viruses in the wild that can infect an iphone that has not been jailbroken. Since the video purports to tell you how to tell if your iphone has a virus, the entire thing must be assumed to be completely worthless when it comes to any information it presents.

I clicked and on one of the replies someone recommended a site and added the link aswell for it. I clicked it, but it didnt seem that safe and seemed poorly made so i left and deleted safari searches and data on settings.

Going to a poorly made website will not hurt your phone. Unless you gave that website personal information they might try to use to steal your identity, there's no harm done.

I went there and saw “wifi” which was the name of the profile and it was also not signed.

As KillianCR said above, if you've deleted the profile, you're fine.

Hi there

i suggest that you get in contact with apple about this one. as we explained above, we recommend that you delete the profile and carry on using your device, as we do not think that this is a unsafe matter, simply, this may just be a glitch, and there may not be any negative intentions behind it.

however, it is always safe to check this with an apple advisor, who is excellently skilled in situations like these. please do not worry anymore about this issue. if you would like to contact apple, please see this link -----> https://getsupport.apple.com/

i hope you enjoy the rest of your day!

Thanks for the reply.

i understand. since it is removed, theres nothing else we can do. i can share with you some tips on how to remain secure on iphone

How to protect your Apple account and devices

Here are some things you can do to avoid scams that target your Apple account and devices.

Never share personal information like credit card numbers, unless you can verify the recipient is who they claim to be.

Protect your Apple ID. Use two-factor authentication, always keep your contact information secure and up to date, and never share your Apple ID password or verification codes with anyone. Apple never asks for this information to provide support.

Never use Apple Gift Cards to make other kinds of payments.

Learn how to identify legitimate Apple emails about your App Store or iTunes Store purchases. If you send or receive money with Apple Pay (U.S. only), treat it like any other private transaction.

Learn how to keep your Apple devices and data secure.

Download software only from sources you can trust.

Don't follow links or open or save attachments in suspicious or unsolicited messages.
