firmware hash key british keyboard layout

Hi there, I have an intel Macbook pro that needs to have the firmware unlocked. I have the password provided by the IT team but it contains the "#" character. When I try to do alt + 3 on the British layout keyboard the input is not register and so I can't apply the password. Has anyone faced this issue and/or has any tips on how to get the correct value in?

You may need to take this up with IT again. Sometimes option level characters do not work in password fields, and unfortunately that's where # is in Apple's British layout (but not in British PC, where it sits on the top level over at the right edge, or in US, where it is on the shift level). But you presumably have no way to change the layout without unlocking first.
