transfer data between iPhone and Mac

The Internet & Apple advisor instruction is to connect iPhone charge socket to Mac USB socket for data transfer, but this connection charges the iPhone, not transfer data. I heard, after the iPhone is fully charged, data will be transferred, but I don't want to charge my iPhone 100% (bad for the battery). I used bluetooth instead. Please comment.

I have charged my iPhone 8 to 100% everyday for the past 4 years and the battery health is still at 87%.

I sync my iPhone and iPads with my Mac using a USB charge and sync cable. I do not use iCloud or the wireless connection, because USB is the fastest connection for Importing photos from the iOS devices to the Mac.

To sync your iPhone 8 with your iMac using the USB charge and sync cable.
