When will Photos or Preview or anything else support HDR AVIF files?

Photoshop has supported HDR AVIF files since October of last year, but currently the only way to view those HDR files *in HDR* is with Google Chrome. I'm surprised that Apple hasn't updated any of its own photo viewing applications to support HDR display on their XDR monitors yet. Has anyone heard anything about when this might happen?

Currently, the apps can *read* those AVIF files, but it totally mangles their appearance as it tries to downconvert them from HDR to SDR... poorly.

We're end users like yourself so have no idea of Apple's plans. Tell Apple what missing features you'd like restored or new features added to the system via Feedback - macOS - Apple.

Apparently not because I found elsewhere that Safari 17 will support it, so that's a step in the right direction. Hopefully, that means other apps will too.
