Using the number symbol (#) in Notes when it is NOT meant to be a hash tag

As a developer and engineer, I have many notes where the number symbol is a necessary character in the body of various notes. It is not meant to be a hash tag. I do not want it to be listed as a tag. It is a simple necessary character. How can this be accomplished in Notes (override, markdown, convention)?

I have found other similar questions and casual answers, but to say "Apple doesn't support this" relative to the simplicity and nature of special characters is unreasonable from an innovation perspective.

Hello Max Friz,

If you want to completely disable the conversion to a tag just go to Settings > Notes, and turn off the Auto Convert to Tag toggle switch.

If you want to leave the tag conversion active but just want to change certain items in the note with a # sign to regular text, highlight and select the item in the note then choose Convert to text.

Use Tags and Smart Folders in Notes on your iPhone and iPad

Cheers!

1) Completely disabling as above does not work from a Mac. Maybe it works from a phone, though.

2) If it auto-convert is on, on a Mac, you can right-click and Convert to Text as Jaym_8 mentioned above. Somewhat easier maybe is to just add a space after the # symbol. So you can type # 5 and leave it that way, or move the cursor back one, delete the space, and move the cursor forward one. More clicks but can all be done through the keyboard without the mouse / trackpad and menu bar.
