Text Editor

I have 2 questions:

  1. When I open the text editor application it always opens with a file opening window and to create a new file I have to click on 'Create new file'. It's really annoying. How do I change the settings of the editor so that it automatically creates a new file without opening this window?
  2. When I edit a file with a text editor app it modifies the file before I saved it. I don't know if it's a bug or it should be like this. Every text editor I've used in the past, even on Windows, made no changes to the file before I saved it.

You profile suggests that you are using a beta of macOS Sonoma (14.0) and we cannot discuss or provide assistance with Apple beta products. Re-read the beta agreement.

  1. If this were Ventura however, I would suggest that you visit System Settings : click on your name : iCloud : iCloud Drive (=⦿) > (click that arrow) : Apps Syncing to iCloud Drive nn > and on that panel, deselect TextEdit. Doing so will cause TextEdit to just open a new document window instead of a File chooser panel.
  2. TextEdit uses autosave after the first save of your content. That is normal.

Hello Yarinl3!

Unfortunately, we cannot see the image you shared, because you uploaded it incorrectly. If you copy-paste an image into your reply, it will just show as white box.

However, if you click the “more” button (circle with three dots) beneath the text box, and click on “image” (sun and mountains) you can add an image from Photos or Files, and we will be able to see it.

Thanks!

Edit- There we go! 😊
