AppleID issue

When prompted to enter my Appleid and PW It asks if I want to use my AppleID and shows it (email) so I click yes and then it asks for PW which I enter and it tells me it is incorrect. So I go to “sign in with different ID" and I manually enter the SAME email address and password and it accepts it saying I am on a new device which I tell it OK. This happens each and every time I sign in to my AppleID.

In System Settings under Passwords it verifies what I am using but never accepts it the first time I sign in.

Thank you for your reply, hawghead. At least we've established that there are no obsolete or unwanted items listed there. Yet we haven't found the precise cause of the issue you experience.

Wondering if you are signed in (to your Mac, and devices) with your Apple ID.

(How to: Sign in with your Apple ID - Apple Support)

and

whether your Mac and devices are upgraded to the newest compatible OS version.

Eg: What’s new in the updates for macOS Ventura: says macOS Ventura 13.4.1

and About iOS 16 Updates - Apple Support: says iOS 16.5.1

If all of the above is ok ... restarting your Mac (or device) occasionally will delete temporary files, and will often restore order when something is not working right.

Thank you kindly ... you've been so patient. Am asking around ...

If no-one here comes up with a solution, you could try contacting Apple ID support:

Apple ID (info / support / help / contact) website:

There is a "Get Support - start now" link (online chat, phone, eMail etc),

or a support app you can download, at the bottom of their webpage (link below)

Here are the suggestions that came up:

When you sign in with Apple ID for the first time the password is deemed incorrect. This is showing a mail suggestion from previous Mac that is not removed properly before setting up new Mac.

The second time you enter that new Apple ID and its password it's accepted.

You may want to contact apple support, do a screen sharing so they can see exactly what is happening.

See the article https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT212190

Follow the steps Use the Reset Password assistant

And finally If you still can't reset your password, erase your Mac.
