Family Sharing.

I want to start family sharing from my iphone but when I press on family sharing in settings it says, “Adult Family Member Required” even though I’m 20 and well obviously an adult. I tried it from my moms phone and added myself to her group. When I selected my name from her phone, it said that she was my parent/guardian and I can’t topple off that either. I’ve tried updating my age on my icloud but it didn’t help. I also have a valid credit card saved on my phone for purchases. What can I do to be able to start family sharing on my own?

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 16

Please review this support article that explains how to remove yourself from Family Sharing and how the Family Organizer can remove you from Family Sharing if Screen Time has been set to prevent you from removing yourself.

It is the Family Organizer that has control over Family Sharing, not the Parent/Guardian. The Organizer is the person that set the plan up and if they have Screen Time turned on for your account, then they must remove you.

After reviewing the support article, please advise which option you chose and what does not work. Also verify that the Organizer has not activated Screen Time on your account.

Hello salwaali,

If you want to leave a Family Share group, Leave Family Sharing - Apple Support

Are you the organizer? If so, you'll be referred to as such within the Family Share settings. Everyone else (based on age) will be Parent/Guardian, Adult, or Child - Set up Family Sharing - Apple Support. I am not aware of an age limit to be an organizer of a Family Share group. I know you said you were 20, but can you verify your Apple ID is in sync with that- Update the birth date associated with your Apple ID - Apple Support?

I would verify the age associated with your Apple ID if you're receiving a "Adult Family Member Required" message. What does it say your role is in the Family Share group, either on your iPhone or someone else's?

To setup Purchase Sharing (to share purchases and subscriptions), please read - How to share purchases with your family - Apple Support. Apple subscriptions (besides iCloud+) should share by default and I don't think this filters by age either. If you have it, it's shared whereas if you don't it's not.

I thought it only said "Age X" when it considers you a child account🤔

The organizer's label in the Family Share should be Organizer not Parent/Guardian. As an example, in my Family Share I have the Organizer label. Everyone else has Parent/Guardian or Adult.

Are you already paying for the subscriptions you'd like to share? If so try this,

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Your Name (Apple ID)
  3. Tap Subscriptions
  4. Under Options, toggled on Share with Family

If successful, the Organizer should be able to see this. Instead of Shared by You, it'd say Shared by <Your Name>. You might be able to see this (by following the steps below). I apologize as I've never really be on the other side of this.

To get to this menu:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Family
  3. Tap Subscriptions

I’ve trekked updating my age but that doesn’t seem to work either. My role once i’m in family sharing just says “Age 20” whereas my sisters role is “Adult” and my mother is “Parent/guardian” (as she is the organizer). I want to start family sharing from my account so I can pay for new subscriptions but I am not able to do that.
