They will be very difficult to verify that they have been removed correctly from the original owner's Apple ID and Find My. They will be almost impossible to check the battery health, and the only fix for a degraded battery is full cost replacement AirPods.
Finally, itwill be almost impossible to check they are not counterfeit. There are a number of clues which will give you a red flag for fake, but no way to be sure they are genuine without going to an Apple Store and persuading a Genius Bar tech to test them - by which time it will be too late.
