Apple Watch Ultra + Polar H10 continuously disconnects via bluetooth, any ideas?

I want to record my heart rate on runs/hikes using my just Apple Watch Ultra and Polar H10. The goal is to pair/connect the H10 to the Apple Watch Ultra via Bluetooth (as a ‘health device,’) and then use it with the Fitness app.

The problem I’m having is the watch will not pull heart rate from the H10, instead, it defaults to heart rate pulled from the watch every time.

When I attempt to connect via bluetooth it briefly tells me its connected, then immediately says not connected.

The watch will pull HR from the Polar when I run with my iPhone + use the Polar app, but I want to be able to run using just the strap and watch. I’ve tried resetting (both the watch and hard resetting the H10), repairing, changing battery, restarting, etc with no luck.

Has anyone else experience this issue, any ideas?

Hi there, I don’t know if this will help your situation, but I was absolutely furious, trying everything to get it to work. I even returned an Apple Watch and H10 thinking one of the systems were screwed up. But I just got my new one and realized that you have to be wearing the strap in order for the Apple Watch to pair with it via Bluetooth. I was trying it with just the sensor clipped onto the strap, but without having it on. And that wouldn’t work pairing-wise. I hope this helps someone who is just as furious as I was before 😡☺️

TRY THIS to know definitively if your heart rate is coming from your Polar H10 (even if it says it's not connected):

  1. Open the Health app from your iPhone
  2. Go to your latest heart rate info (there are a few ways to get there, but going to Browse-->Heart-->Latest is how I do it)
  3. Once there, scroll down until you see Show All Data (see screenshot) and select it
  4. On the next screen you should see All Recorded Data, select an entry from there that corresponds when you were wearing your H10
  5. On the Details screen, the bottom half under Device Details will tell you if it was coming from your H10 (see screenshot)

I have used the Polar H10 successfully while running with my apple watches for years without major issues, currently with the Ultra 1. Occasionally, it will show as "not connected" in Bluetooth settings when it should show connected (wearing the strap, etc.) Forgetting the device and adding back usually resolves. But I've noticed that even though it says that under Bluetooth settings it actually was working for my whole workout.

Regardless, you can use the steps above to find all the sources of your health data at any point in time...I have found it very helpful for all kinds of devices. Hope that helps! ☺

Simple answer is you cannot connect H10 to Watch

This is incorrect. The Polar H10 is compatible with Apple Watch.

Why it keeps disconnecting, I cannot say. The solar H10 may need a firmware update.

I have an Apple Watch series 1 and a brand new Polar H10 and it’s currently paired and measuring my heart rate via the strap not my watch. You can tell b/c Polar takes constant measurements while Apple Watch does every few minutes. However, it does keep losing its connection and takes patience to to re-pair. Turning Bluetooth on and off on the Apple Watch sometimes helps. Forgetting Polar H10 and then pairing seemed to help, but not consistent. Requires lots of patience. Will try keeping Polar wet per other posts.

I’m having the same issues. A couple of other bits of colour to add to this thread.

My H10 worked fine with my old Apple Watch 6. It was when I switched to a new Ultra 2 that Polar kept disconnecting.

Heres the odd bit though….even though according to the Bluetooth screen in my watch, the H10 has disconnected, when (post workout) I look at the data via the Health app, I can see that it says all the heart rate readings were “sampled” by the Apple Watch but the “device details” were the Polar H10….

As for my experience with the Apple Watch 5 and the Polar H10, Bluetooth connection hasn't been reliable. So I reactivated my old Garmin Forerunner 235 which connects to the H10 by ANT. It works perfectly. I love my Apple Watch but for running I prefer the Garmin. Also, operating the buttons is much easier on the Garmin. Please, Apple, make your great Watch a great running watch!
