Irregular and napping not tracked

Unfortunately I don’t know when I will fall asleep or take a nap, it’s something that just happens but I would like for my watch to track those things.

is there a way it can auto detect when someone’s fallen asleep based on heart rate and breathing without having to manually set the sleep schedule?

example I go to the movie theatre with an intent to watch the movie but I fall asleep - currently this is not tracked

Hello BloatedBetty,

To my knowledge (and from what I've seen/experienced), Apple Watch only tracks sleep cycles during the sleep schedule you create. Now, you can set the sleep schedule to start earlier / later and it will only track as you sleep. As an example I have my "bedtime" set to midnight, but I usually don't fall asleep until 2am. Apple Watch knows and tracks starting at around 2am when it knows I'm asleep (even though my Sleep Focus is on). The same goes for waking up. I usually always wake up always one to two hours before my "wake up" time and Apple Watch still knows when I woke up.

Again to my knowledge (and from what I've seen/experienced), Apple Watch does not track naps or sleeping outside of this cycle. I'm sure it's capable of doing so, but the feature hasn't been implemented yet. Please also keep in mind the new sleep cycles are still fairly new! I'm sure Apple is working on it and plans to role this out in the future. However, you can leave feedback - Feedback - Watch - Apple! Apple promises to read all feedback carefully.
