OS SYSTEM content triggers antivirus program

The completely useless Avast is flagging files in the System folder, which is a sealed, read-only volume that is off limits to everyone but Apple in Monterey and later.

Avast is doing nothing but slowing your system down. Any other AV software is no better. Uninstall this junk and do not replace it with anything else.

This is due to macOS System Integrity Protection. It will not allow you to modify or delete the operating system itself. Some people think it is protection against malware. It is actually protection against anti-malware.

Options?

Remove the overly-noisy add-on anti-malware, and use the built-in anti-malware.

Or wait for Avast to release updated definitions.

PS: Yes, there have been other cases of the built-in malware defenses preventing add-on anti-malware from corrupting things. I expect we’ll see more.

Completely uninstall Avast. AV programs are not needed and are known to cause problems, including false positives.

Get rid of that anti-virus immediately. It is doing nothing useful on your phone and it is creating false alarms as well.

It is actually protection against anti-malware.

I never thought of it that way before, but it's also a very true statement.
