USB port leaking fluid

Hello, my USB port appears with a liquid looking like oil and does not work anymore, both for charging and not for HDMI. I think it came into contact with my skin and now I have a metallic taste in my mouth. Where can this liquid come from?

Used alcohol and hand sanitizer and orange glow to try to make this thing smell OK and it still stinks and from what I heard everybody’s been returning and having the same problem and never found one that hasn’t smelled. Anyone find anything that will mask the smell from what I hear we’re stuck with the smell for now even if we exchange bc they all stink. Apple needs to fix this!!!!

New USB-C cable still has mold/mildew smell, Dec 2022 With the recent purchase of a new Apple device, I also purchased a longer USB-C cable. The cable that comes with the device has a plastic smell. Definitely plastic. Definitely tolerable. The 2m cable I purchased in a separate package REEKS of a combination of possibilities - mold, mildew, vomit…I couldn’t stay near it long enough to accurately identify the smell. It’s horrific. Has Apple has addressed this? I see on the forum that it was an issue from January 2022 or before. Of course, I’m returning…but wondering if anyone has any information as to what’s going on with the cable.

Apple USB-C 2m charge cable smell Purchased an original Apple USB-C 2m Charge cable Jan 2023 from Amazon UK, on opening packaging I noticed a strong mildew/mold smell from the cable. I placed a review on Amazon UK stating the issue thinking it was a storage issue at Amazon as I noticed a number of Amazon reviews also reported the smell. However on searching the web I notice the issue seems to have been widespread across various countries and from also from cables purchased direct from Apple, and has been the reported over a number of years. On checking my charge cable Apple packaging there is a date of 10/22. It seems that people sending cables back for replacements have cables returned with the same issue even direct from Apple. Seems strange its not something I would expect from a premium priced product from such a prestigious company. Has the issue been or going to be resolved?
