Hey eze813

If we understand correctly, you're trying to use account recovery to regain access to your Apple ID account, but don't remember the trusted phone number on file. If that's correct, you do need to at least know the phone number to start the process. Have you been able to check with family, friends, and your carrier at that time? Just in case, here's more information about account recovery: How to use account recovery when you can’t reset your Apple ID password - Apple Support

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Take care!

The line is disconnected , you can switch to new cellular service , using the same mobile number , however number is always with first cellular service centre .

Using the same number the new cellular services will give their services to you they will issue a new sim , the account is still active on the iCloud server .

in case if the actual owner ( your moms friend contact apple support senior care advisors Contact Apple for support and service - Apple Support ) if credit card was added in the account and its details are known to her , the account can be verified within moments and opened by them .

Your friends mom has to visit cellular service centre , the number can be obtained from them it depends is the trusted number still active , the Apple ID and its password is remembered see threads iCloud verification - Apple Community

Note : the iPhone was gifted to you so you were only using the device , it all depends what credentials for the account are known .

So here’s the thing the iPhone my friends mom gave me still had her SIM card in the phone and no that line in not connected, when I looked at the number on the sim it’s not the one my account is asking for, which confuses me because that’s the last iphone I had before losing that iCloud acc to 2fa. And yes I know the password and login to my iCloud still.

When she gave me the phone I logged into my own iCloud account and I found out the phone number for the gifted phone she gave me was not the one on my 2fa recovery method, so basically I don’t think I need her and I did not add a credit card myself so how would I go about logging back in I never connected the phone when I had it so I don’t know where the number on my 2fa came from seems like a random number to me. Is there a Apple specialist I can just talk to on the phone? That seems like my best option.

Hi eze813,

When an iPhone is given away, it needs to be erased with the Apple ID signed out and Find My disabled. This info is found here:

What to do before you sell, give away, or trade in your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Since those steps were not followed, this means the iPhone is Activation Locked. This is a security feature, and can not be removed by you or Apple.

Activation Lock for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

If your friend's mom still has the proof of purchase receipt for that iPhone, they can use the Account Recovery process which we talked about in our last message.

Otherwise, you can recycle the iPhone:

All the best.
