Erase content before selling

My daughter sold her old ipad but before she did she erased the content and took it back to factory settings. The person that bought it 2 weeks ago is now asking for her iCloud info because somehow it reverted back to her icloud info and they can’t get in. Is this possible?

DON’T EVER give out iCloud credentials.

It might be a scam.

Or it might be that your daughter simply overlooked a key step and the purchaser is seeing the “Activation Lock” screen.

Specifically the 1st “Step 10” listed here:

(Which is also the 2nd “Step 6”)

You’d normally want to remove it from your device list at https://appleid.apple.com/

There’s no real “harm” to you in NOT doing so - unless you plan to sell the device to someone else; in which case they couldn’t use it.

It DOES however “clutter-up” your device list; the review of which is something you should periodically perform to confirm that no “rogue devices” have been attached to your AppleID.

Any clutter in your “Devices” will make “rogue devices” more difficult to spot.

Re: “… the ICloud name she stated starts with letters that does not match my daughters info …”

Then it “might” also be a scam trying to obtain a fraudulent refund.

As long as that device is indeed NOT on your daughter’s AppleID (accessed from “Devices” at https://appleid.apple.com) she’s done ALL that she’s technically capable of doing.
