SIRI Not fully functional when in moving vehicle. CELLULAR is connected to internet.

WHILE IN A MOVING VEHICLE: Siri responds to some questions, but will not search the web.

Focus is disabled

Do Not Disturb is disabled

When the vehicle is in motion the following is observed:

  1. INTERNET is FULLY OPERATIONAL with browsers and applications (except SIRI)
  2. Manually entering request in SAFARI and GOOGLE apps provide correct results
  3. Perusing Facebook is fully operational
  4. Perusing LinkedIn is fully operational
  5. Sending and receiving EMAILs is fully operational
  6. Sending and receiving text messages is fully operational
  7. downloading audible books on Audible is fully operational
  8. Ordering merchandise on Amazon is fully operational
  9. Asking SIRI to search the web is NOT operational.

“Search the web for …. “

result: “Siri cannot search the web on iPhone”.

This only happens when in a moving vehicle.

Vehicle stops, wait a few minutes & Siri is fully functional.

iPhone shows the car icon … but FOCUS is not set up for driving and FOCUS is disabled.

THIS IS NOT AN INTERNET CONNECTIVITY ISSUE !!!!

I repeat … NOT an internet connection issue - it is a problem with SIRI when a vehicle is in motion. Again, I can manually enter the query into SAFARI or GOOGLE browsers and the internet works!

FOCUS is disabled!

What are the settings that cause SIRI to respond differently when in a moving vehicle?

I want full SIRI functionality when connected to Internet (cellular or Wi-Fi) and in a moving vehicle (Car, Bus, Ferry, Boat, Airplane, …)

Driving focus is not setup. As a result there is nothing under focus. Selecting FOCUS from the settings menu results in:

DRIVING FOCUS is not set up and therefore should not be enabled.

Selecting FOCUS STATUS results in

This is a personal iPhone. Do you know of other programs that can impact SIri without my consent? Wouldn’t that be a bit of a security issue and something Apple would safeguard against?

Hi Lawrence,

I am nearly 70 years old and retired. Again, thiis my personal iPhones and is only 2 years old. My email is not related to any business and is not an MS exchange account. I do’t use or even like MS products. No one outside myself has control over my email or my iPhone. I am retired, I do not have Parental controls set up. Thanks for your advice, but it is not related to a business, MS Exchange account, or parental controls.

Any chance that someone from Apple can look into this issue and provide a response, please?

Yes, certainly, but not in this user-to-user forum where Apple doesn’t participate in discussions.

Apple’s formal support can be reached several ways:

  • You can provide feedback to Apple at→ Product Feedback - Apple where your issue or suggestion will be recorded, but you will not get a reply

Note that both of the above have options to receive a callback or chat
