Voice message in iMessage not able to send because attachment too long

There is a new problem which has occurred several times within the voice text feature of my iPhone 12 which if that sometimes I record a voice text message and attempt to send it but a notice will appear saying “Attachment is too long to send; would you like to send a shorter clip of this message?” But when I press “YES”, nothing happens: it neither shortens the clip nor gives any manner with which to edit and shorten my voice message text!! Why even have a message come forward as if there is an option to shorten my voice recorded text if there is no way to do so :(? I have tried and tried again and again and it never sends the message (cuz it’s too long) not does it shorten it to send me even a truncated portion of the voice recorded text. I’ve tried long pressing it to see if it would be shunted over to the voice memos but it is not. This is a huge flaw in this feature…. Does anyone know if there’s some way not apparent to me to save the recorded voice text and edit it to shorten it and then send?
