Read Sms messages showing as unread

I have no unread messages on my phone. iOS 16.5.1, model 14 Pro plus. However it shows 45 u read messages. I have deleted every message. No filters. I cannot get this to disappear. Is anyone able to help.

Hello brenda1263!

First, please go to the Messages app, then tap “Edit,” then “Select Messges,” then, “Read All.”

If that doesn’t clear the unread messages, please have Siri “read all unread messages.”
