Whatsapp Installer on Desktop

WhatsApp Installer Icon on Desktop

I downloaded WhatsApp for my MacBook Air and everything works fine. I have the application icon at the bottom of my screen just as any other app I have on here. However, when I installed WhatsApp, a WhatsApp installer icon popped up onto my desktop screen and i cannot delete it. If i delete it, the entire WhatsApp application will not work and I then I have to redownload it again and keep the WhatsApp installer on my desktop. This never used to happen and it just started last week (when I reinstalled the Macos - Monterey 12.6.7). I'll attach photos so you know what I am talking about. Any help is appreciated!

Thank you, both.

Tried this solution but it didn't work for Whatsapp (although it worked for other programs).

Eventually figured out that the issue was with the whatsapp/macOS compability. Downloaded the version from App Store that doesn't lead to an installation folder (probably because it installs in the Application folder directly). Deleted the other version and problem solved.

Appreciate your time and inputs nevertheless.

The icon on your desktop is a mounted disk image. These are are encapsulated archive .dmg and .img files that mount as a physical disk or flash drive would on your desktop. Once you drag the icon as Niel suggests to the applications folder, it will be able to launch from the applications folder. At that point the icon in the Dock will be able to be saved to the dock for future use.

People make the mistake to try to launch the application directly from the image, and wonder why their saved Dock icon doesn't work when the image is no longer mounted. That's because unlike PCs, the Dock is merely a non-file saved shortcut to an actual file. So wherever you launch the application is the location the Dock shortcut points to.

I have the same problem and followed the above advice with dragging the "Whatsapp Installer" into the applications. However. Each time I open the whatsapp app which I kepp in the dock, the whatsapp installer pops up on the desktop again. If I delete it from there I cant open whatsapp (on the dock) anymore. Even though a version of whatsapp and whatsapp installer is in the applications folder. What am I doing wrong?
