How to get old imassages on a reset iphone as a new phone

I only see recent backups on my icloud; I always chose to back up "for ever". How do I get my old back-ups and how do I make sure that recent imessages and phone calls are imported to my reset phone?

Hello johanne226,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. If you're trying to restore from an iCloud backup, this resource can show you how: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support

The steps are listed under "Restore your device from an iCloud backup". You'll only be able to select from available backups that are created. You mentioned that you wanted to restore from old backups. Allow us to share some more information: What does iCloud back up? - Apple Support

It states the following information:

With Backup turned on, iCloud takes periodic snapshots of this data to make sure that it's easy to restore any time you get a new device.

This means that iCloud backups will remain updated. There might not be an option listed to select old iCloud backups since snapshots of your data is being saved over time. You'll be able to confirm this once you see the available iCloud backups listed when trying to restore from iCloud. Your Messages will be included in your iCloud backups only if you were not using iCloud to sync your messages. If you were using iCloud for Messages, they will not be included in your iCloud backup. This resource explains more on how iCloud for Messages works: Set up iCloud for Messages on all your devices - Apple Support

We hope this information helps you. Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Take care.
