The article If your Apple Watch won't charge or it won't turn on - Apple Support including the advice to Force Restart near the end of the article is the best resource for this situation. If you've completed that troubleshooting and the issue is still not resolved, use the link in the article to Contact Support. Or Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple

(Note that recent Watches without plastic protective packaging do not usually have film over the watch back or charging puck).

Make sure you have a 20watt Apple USB-C charging brick.

Woke up this morning to my Series 8 watch with the circle with the indentation... googled and brought me to this tread. I did the Force restart like @LD150 suggested and I finally got a full charge, and the indentation is gone! I also read where if there's a new update this could cause an error since the watch hasn't been turned off completely and then turned back on, which I admit, I hardly ever turn off my watch - and my watch had an update a few days ago! Problem solved, for now!

I recently found my Apple Watch doing the same thing when placed on the Apple charger it came with: Flash sequence going clockwise with bright green showing available battery and dark green for the depleted battery. Once it makes the 360 degree it backtracks the dark green ~100 degrees and a very small portion turns inwards every so much. Like a backwards capital G. I did a quick search online and the only thing that was remotely close was this post with no answer other to do a forced restart. The restart did fix the issue, but I would like to know what exactly was the issue was and why it did what it did. Any help or link to the real answer would be appreciated.

The restart is all you need to know. Glitches happen all the time. Always restart after every update.
