Disabled iPod touch

I have an iPod touch 5th gen that has been disabled for years now. It says it's disabled and to connect to iTunes. I have plugged it in to my MacBook but the power on button does not work so I don't know how to restart it to start the backup process. Is there any other way to restart it? It's very old and broken so I know it may be a lost cause but I would like to recover the pictures on there.

No. If you get past the broken button, restoring it will erase its contents; it isn't possible to back up or recover any data from a disabled unit.
