mac mini and dell ultra wide display

Summary for the day: i did find the display port in the monitor, but there is no display port to usb c cable supplied. I only saw a display port to display port cable. So, I am waiting until i receive the display port to usb c cable from amazon tomorrow.

thank you. i did that and now the output is selected to be hdmi.

1) max resolution possible now is 3840 x 1080

2) when i select max resolution quality is bad, similar to when i was selecting 5120 x 1440 before

3) when i select a lower resolution the quality improves but still, not what i expect from a screen in 2023

any further suggestion ? I think (1) is expected per specs in the mac mini

Thank you - great points. Do you think it will help if I change the aspect ratio? Dell gives me some options like 1-1. But primarily what I don’t like in this setting is that with mac / hdmi I can’t reach the full resolution of this monitor so why am I paying for it ?

also, what’s the point of connecting to both hdmi and usb - c (c for Dell and a for the Mac mini)

Thank you very much for the suggestion and the link. Kindly be more specific. The Dell monitor does not have display port, it has usb, usb c, and hdmi. The Mac mini has usb, thunderbolt 4, hdmi. What’s the role of the display port in the context of your suggestion ?

repeating to make sure I follow your suggestion 100%: I ll connect the display port from the monitor to the usb c port at the Mac mini. For that I need a display port to usb c cable. I think one such cable came with the monitor. I have to check

• i went to local apple store to ask for a usb c to display port cable - they don't have it.

yes i am getting 3 feet. are you sure ? because in the specs the other one it does not say mac mini compatibility (i just noticed) - this is what it says:

hi friends, i just tried the display port to usb c connection and the result is the same. i do get in theory the 5120 x 1440 resolution of the monitor but what i actually see in the screen is bad. meanwhile i did call apple costumer service and dell costumer service - no useful advice from either of them. i am reaching a point where i think this pairing would never give 5120 x 1440 resolution that i would enjoy. what do you guys think ? anything else i should try. maybe play with some settings ?
