Error code

When I copy a file from a folder in a first window to another folder in a new window,

I get the error code -8076 when I close the first window before the copy is done.

How so and what does it mean ?

(MacOS Ventura 13.4.1)

iMac (M1, 2021)

Hey abedard3,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. Error code 8076 is an error that you may get when either renaming, modifying, copying, and moving or deleting files and folders. This may be related to a permissions issue when the folder that the file is being moved from is closed.

If the message doesn't appear if the windows remain open, we recommend keeping it open until the copying completes.

Thank ! This is what I am doing: keep the window open till the end of the copying.

By the way, if I use the command-C key to copy the file, then close the window,

then using command-V to put the file in another folder, all goes fine; no error code.

Does this happen with local folders or folders linked to some cloud service like Dropbox, OneDrive, etc?

FWIW, it should not happen anyway, but this trying to get more information about what may be causing the problem.

Also, do you have any antivirus or cleaners installed?
