Suddenly, a horizontal line of type has appeared all across the screen of my monitor on the desktop I recognize it as being the file name for the image that is currently displaying on my desktop. The line is about ⅝" high and is the full file name. I have not been able to find anywhere that I can do something to remove it.
I would be thankful for any help I can get.

Start with this of M1 or M2 Mac...
On your Mac, choose Apple menu > Shut Down.
Wait for your Mac to shut down completely. A Mac is completely shut down when the screen is black and any lights (including in the Touch Bar) are off.
Press and hold the power button on your Mac until “Loading startup options” appears.
Select a volume.
Press and hold the Shift key, then click Continue in Safe Mode.
The computer restarts automatically. When the login window appears, you should see “Safe Boot” in the menu bar.
Restart normally.
Start with this if IntelMac...
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes or more.
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

Oh, yes, I have restarted and started hundreds of times and it stays right there.
Could it be a desktop pix? Absolutely it could ... and it is. It is the file name and location for the graphic file that I am using for my desktop. I am sure of that. However, I have tried to use every bit of info that I have to get rid of it with no luck.
How do I make that go away?

It looks like you are telling me to boot up in Safe Mode, and then reboot. I have followed your steps but neither of them take me to Safe Mode. My computer is an iMac but a late 2013 model. I expect to replace it by the end of summer.
Oh, right! I do remember running into that somewhere in the past. I have a wireless keyboard. I remember that the start up routine looks for the keyboard command before it connects the bluetooth for the keyboard. At the present time I only have wireless keyboards.

The name of the file changes to whatever was selected. It is the correct file name,, I just want to turn it off and make it go away.
Yes, the second, shorter, easier method, but often doesn't work unless you have a wired Keyboard.
Not sure what we can do to start diagnosing it without a cheap $10 PC wired USB KB?
Remove a file name that appears all the way across the center of my monitor screen.
