Freeview play app
I found several links online that said that there is a Freeview play app available on Apple TV in the UK.
However on my Apple TV I cannot find the app on the App Store.
Has it been withdrawn or something?

They are mistaken. Select TVs may have it built-in as smart app. Else get the Manhattan or Humax set-top box.
There is an app for iPhone and for iPad. No other Apple devices at this time.

Can you cite these sources?

Apologies, I got confused and was referring to freevee https://www.amazon.com/gp/video/splash/freevee_findus, which will not suit your purpose. That said, BBC is mostly free with their iPlayer app available on ATV. ITV and C4 have their own ATV players too but I’m guessing not free.
Really frustrating - bought Apple TV to get rid of Virgin tv box .. and now it seems the many reports of free view having an app for Apple TV … with an EPG That spans a couple of weeks and seamlessly links through to Iplayer etc
annoying you can get Freeview for phone & then cast the show to Apple TV - but that’s crackers !
Official site:
“To use the Freeview app, you will need an Android phone or tablet running Android OS 4.4 KitKat and above or an iPhone or iPad running iOS 11 and above.”
Cal you clarify what you mean by "It's part of Amazon".
I should probably elaborate - I am looking for a way to ditch my highly expensive Sky subscription which locks me in for 18 months each time at very high cost.
However I am pretty sure my wife will want some kind of EPG where you can view what is currently on live TV channels and then click on the program you want to watch.
From a bit of research, the closest I found to this was to pay for an app called TV Launcher in the UK, and it will then automatically launch the relevant app to play the program you want. I will probably try this one out.
Are you saying that Amazon Prime app on Apple TV has something similar? I am talking here about the "main" UK free channels like BBC, ITV, Channel 4 etc.
I use TV Launcher and it works great. Emailed the developer about the app not syncing with other Apple devices and got a response within 24 hours where an update had been completed and the issue was resolved. As long as you have iplayer, ITVX, 4, 5 & UKTV it bridges the gap & gives you the TV guide you want. UKTV does take you to the live stream, it only opens the app, but a small consolation for such a great app.
The app is easy to customise and you can hide channels you do not have a subscription to.
Hi thanks millions this is exactly what I wanted. We're moving away from "linear" TV guides, but sometime sits very useful to have one that links to the apps. This on works pretty well and is worth using for the price of one copy of a TV magazine. I find you can look through the schedules and click on a prog you want to see, and it usually opens the correct app at the right place. Thank you.
It’s part of Amazon Prime Video.
Never mind.
Thx is that’s helpful . Not perfect but pretty good for those of us leaving to scheduled behind
thank you
You are correct and actually ITV and C4 you can watch for free with ads, or by subscription without ads.
The missing part is the EPG style view of programs being shown now. Arguably this will eventually be a relic of a bygone age so we should wean ourselves off it anyway.
It looks like this TV Launcher app on Apple TV does a reasonable job of it and has got a lot of good reviews - what it does is it shows you what is on the live channels like BBC right now, and then if you click on the program it automatically launches the iplayer app and plays the relevant show.
